about the project
On the Rag is a 16-page zine about period euphemisms. Historically, zines have served as acts of resistance and I felt this would be a great medium to express the stigmas of menstruation. I authored the text using research from recent studies and articles. The collages were pieced together in Photoshop while the rest was laid out in InDesign.
inspiration & process
I wanted recontextualize 19th century depictions of femininity. The zine’s subject matter is playful and defiant in nature and I wanted to illustrate these euphemisms in a similar manner.
